Todd White.
Character and body language on canvas
Todd White is a painter known for stylized figurative scenes that use expression, gesture and detail to suggest a story.
Painting people through gesture
Todd White’s official biography describes a working process that begins with a title and an imagined character. He develops a scene around the personality and story he sees, and treats hands and small gestures as expressive clues. His paintings draw on everyday social settings, with heightened features, texture and color used to make relationships and emotion legible. Before focusing on painting, White worked in animation in Hollywood and was part of the team developing SpongeBob SquarePants, according to his biography. [1]
Art made for a music landmark
In 2007, the Recording Academy selected White to create the official artwork for the 49th Annual GRAMMY Awards. The oil painting was unveiled at the nominees’ press conference and used as the event’s image, program-book cover and promotional poster. The Academy described the crowded, colorful composition as a celebration of music and the people drawn together by it. White has also collaborated on projects beyond gallery painting, including a 2009 Wizard of Oz design exhibition and Coca-Cola packaging in 2010, as summarized on his official biography. [2][1]
Projects beyond the studio
White has carried his visual style into public-facing commissions and collaborations. His official biography records his selection as the 2007 GRAMMY Awards official artist, a contribution to Warner Bros.’ 2009 Wizard of Oz anniversary design exhibition, and a 2010 Coca-Cola packaging collaboration. The same biography notes he donated a portrait of Princess Diana to the Diana Awards charity before receiving its Gold Medal in 2011. [1]
