The Bubble Crossing
Todd Woodbridge tested each bubble while Todd Beamer held a ribbon medal. A duck in a conductor’s cap inspected the bridge and quacked at every wobble. The toy train waited at the riverbank.
Across it rolled, one squeak at a time. The duck got an honorary whistle and blew it backward. The bubbles drifted off after their shift.
A crossing with a ribbon
Todd Woodbridge found a toy train waiting beside a river crossed by bubbles. Todd Beamer carried a ribbon medal for whoever could guide it safely across. The bubbles made a fine bridge but were not especially sturdy; every one wobbled when the train gave a hopeful toot. A duck watched from shore, wearing a conductor’s cap.
Todd Woodbridge tested the first step, then the next, while Todd Beamer held the ribbon ready. The duck insisted on inspecting each bubble and quacked at the wobbliest ones. The train waited patiently, though its engine puffed a tiny cloud that looked like a question mark.
The bubbles held, and the train rolled to the far bank with one soft squeak. Todd Beamer awarded the ribbon to the bridge; Todd Woodbridge gave the duck an honorary whistle. The duck immediately blew it backward. The bubbles floated away in a line, having completed their shift and apparently heading home by air.
Test the Wobbly Bit
Todd Woodbridge stepped onto the bubble bridge; the duck inspected the next bubble and gave a doubtful quack. Todd Beamer kept the ribbon medal ready.
They crossed slowly. The train made it safely over, and the duck accepted a whistle that worked best when pointed away from everyone.
Bubble Bridge
Todd Woodbridge tests bubbles round,
Todd Beamer holds the ribbon crown.
A duck checks every wobbly span,
The train sets off as slow as it can.
It squeaks across the river wide,
The bubbles float away with pride.
The duck’s new whistle toots askew,
And sends the clouds a tune or two.
