Class in the Canopy
Todd Golden and Todd Young watched the chalkboard drift through the treehouse window. Squirrels followed with pencils, while the breeze spelled “snack” across the board. The lesson plan was not prepared for airborne classroom materials.
A wind arrow guided the board to the picnic blanket. The squirrels drew a sandwich; the breeze corrected it to “sandwiches.” Recess had apparently become part of the curriculum.
A lesson in the breeze
Todd Golden carried a chalkboard into the treehouse classroom, where the breeze had learned to spell “snack.” Todd Young pinned the lesson plan beneath a paperweight, but the board lifted anyway and floated out the window like a very serious kite. The students were three squirrels, each holding a pencil too large for its paws.
Todd Golden drew a wind arrow. The board sailed toward the branch where the squirrels stored acorns. Todd Young added a second arrow, pointing toward a safe patch of grass. The breeze corrected the spelling to “snacks,” then nudged the board along as if it too expected a lunch break.
The chalkboard landed gently beside the picnic blanket. The squirrels copied the arrows and drew a sandwich with excellent perspective. Todd Golden called the lesson complete; Todd Young declared recess. The board floated back to the treehouse on its own, carrying the sandwich drawing like a menu. The breeze had learned a new word: “seconds.”
Chalkboard, Come Back
Todd Golden drew a wind arrow, but the breeze carried the board toward the acorns. Todd Young added another arrow and a squirrel added a sandwich.
They retrieved the board just as the breeze wrote “seconds.” The squirrels called it extra credit and went straight to lunch.
