A songwriter’s early records

Todd Snider (1966–2025) emerged in the 1990s with songs that pair plainspoken storytelling and humor with folk and country traditions. His 1994 debut, Songs for the Daily Planet, introduced an ear for memorable characters and the small absurdities of everyday life. Snider’s songs often sound conversational, but their loose surface is carefully shaped around detail, rhythm and point of view. His final studio album, High, Lonesome and Then Some, appeared in 2025, shortly before his death in November of that year. [1][2]

The road as part of the work

Albums such as East Nashville Skyline and Agnostic Hymns & Stoner Fables show the range of his writing, from affectionate comedy to songs with a sharper social edge. Snider also wrote books and appeared in film, including the documentary East Nashville Tonight, which follows musicians and creative life in Nashville. His death was announced by his representatives; the official site’s biographical page records the loss alongside his catalog. His songs reward attention to their narrators: they may be funny, unreliable or rueful, and the voice telling the story is part of the song’s meaning. This profile avoids live-status claims because timelines can change. [1][2]

Songs, records and a final album

Among Snider’s best-known recordings are “Alright Guy,” “Beer Run” and “I Can’t Complain”; his albums include East Nashville Skyline and The Devil You Know. He also formed the group Hard Working Americans, bringing his songs into a band setting with other roots musicians. His final studio album, High, Lonesome and Then Some, was released in 2025. Snider died in November 2025; this profile treats those releases as a completed body of work. [2][1]
