Todd Jones.
A longtime major-league closer
Todd Jones is a former Major League Baseball relief pitcher who recorded 319 career saves over a 16-season career.
A career in the bullpen
Todd Barton Givin Jones was a right-handed relief pitcher who made his major-league debut with the Houston Astros in 1993. Across 16 seasons, he pitched for Houston, Detroit, Boston, Cincinnati, Philadelphia, Colorado and Florida. MLB’s record credits him with 982 regular-season appearances, 58 wins and 319 saves. He was especially associated with Detroit, where he served as closer in two different periods and became one of the franchise’s leading save-makers. [1][2]
From Houston prospect to international roster
Drafted by Houston in 1989 after playing at Jacksonville State, Jones reached the majors four years later. His career included a 2006 selection to represent the United States in the World Baseball Classic, where MLB’s biography notes that he appeared in two games without allowing a run. The record of a long relief career is reflected in his workload and save totals: he moved between clubs but repeatedly returned to high-leverage late-inning roles. MLB’s player page preserves his biography and official statistical line. [1]
Detroit and international competition
Jones returned to Detroit in 2006 and served as the Tigers’ closer that season; MLB’s player biography records his All-Star appearance that July and his work for Team USA at the 2006 World Baseball Classic. He finished his major-league career with Detroit in 2008. These later-career milestones extend a résumé that began with Houston and included closer roles with several clubs. [1]
