Todd Day.
Arkansas star and NBA guard
Todd Day is a former professional basketball player who starred at the University of Arkansas before an eight-season NBA career.
A leading Razorback
Todd Fitzgerald Day became one of the defining players on the University of Arkansas basketball teams of the late 1980s and early 1990s. The Encyclopedia of Arkansas notes that he earned McDonald’s All-American recognition at Hamilton High School in Memphis before joining Arkansas. Under coach Nolan Richardson, Day became a high-scoring guard on nationally prominent Razorback teams. His college career made him a first-round NBA draft choice: Milwaukee selected him eighth overall in 1992. [1][3]
Eight years in the NBA
Day played eight seasons in the NBA, appearing for the Milwaukee Bucks, Boston Celtics, Miami Heat, Minnesota Timberwolves and Phoenix Suns. His career regular-season average was 12.3 points per game across 483 appearances, according to Basketball Reference. After his playing career, he remained connected to basketball in Arkansas through coaching; the Encyclopedia of Arkansas reports that he coached at Philander Smith College from 2016 until fall 2024. That account places his later work in the same state where he first became nationally known as a college player. [3][1]
College achievements and professional transition
At Arkansas, Day was an important contributor to the team that reached the NCAA Final Four in 1990, his sophomore year, and he finished his college career as the school’s all-time leading scorer according to the Encyclopedia of Arkansas. His move to the NBA followed a standout college run: Milwaukee selected him eighth in the 1992 draft. The same reference describes his later return to Arkansas basketball as a coach, including his years at Philander Smith. [1]
