Todd Kim.
Environmental law from D.C. to the federal government
An environmental lawyer whose public service includes leadership roles in the District of Columbia and the U.S. Department of Justice.
A career in environmental law
Todd Kim is an attorney whose career has focused on environmental and natural-resources law. Before joining the federal government, he served as solicitor general for the District of Columbia and helped represent the district in appellate litigation. His experience brought together local government law, constitutional questions and environmental regulation. The Department of Justice biography describes his legal background and public-service roles. [1][3]
Federal environmental enforcement
In 2021, the Senate confirmed Kim as assistant attorney general for the Justice Department’s Environment and Natural Resources Division. The division litigates cases involving federal environmental statutes, public lands, wildlife and tribal interests. Kim’s appointment placed an appellate lawyer with state and local government experience at the head of a broad federal practice. His public record is best understood through the division’s cases and official biography, rather than assumptions about policy outcomes based on title alone. [1][2]
From D.C. appeals to federal environmental work
Kim served as the first Solicitor General of the District of Columbia for more than eleven years, representing the district in appellate cases and leading its appellate office. He then spent time in private practice and returned to federal public service at the Department of Energy before becoming assistant attorney general for ENRD in 2021. DOJ’s biography is explicitly marked historical, so it supports past roles rather than suggesting he holds that office today. [1][3]
